Maartje van der Woude

Maartje van der Woude is a graduate of Leiden University in the Netherlands, where she obtained a degree in both Criminal Law (LLM) and Criminology (MSc). In December 2010 she successfully defended her dissertation Legislation in a Culture of Control. The Drafting of Dutch Counterterrorism Legislation Seen from a Social and Legal-Political Context (Boom Legal Publishers, The Hague) During her Ph.D., dr. Van der Woude has been a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society of the University of California in Berkeley. In her current research, Dr. Van der Woude focuses on the effects of the convergence of criminal law and migration policies (also referred to as the process crimmigration) hereby specifically concentrating on the counterterrorism context and the resulting challenges for policing with regard to the practice of ethnic profiling.
